Rupert Neve - Pensado's Place #102

Dave Pensado sits down with one of the most important figures of the recording industry, the legendary Rupert Neve. As a developer of microphone preamplifiers, equalizers and large format mixing consoles are prized and cherished throughout the industry for their incredible sound and build quality, the name "Neve" is synonymous with good sound. Also, if you have seen the movie "Sound City", Rupert is the man behind the famed 8028 console that is one of the focal points of the movie. Rupert talks about his career, what drives him to create the equipment that he does, and gives advice for the next generation of engineers.

Tony Visconti on recording Bowie's 'Heroes'

Tony Visconti on what it means to be a producer

Tony Visconti Interviewed At 127th AES 2009 In New York

We caught up with Tony Visconti directly after the "Platinum Producer's Conference" at AES, of which he was quite rightfully a panel member. The man who produced some of the greatest albums by David Bowie, T.Rex, and many others, also produced some great insights about the current state of the recoding industry during this interview.

Visconti realizes that the internet has irrevocably changed the way music was made, but that looking back at how it was ain't the answer.

Digger talks to renowned record producer Tony Visconti, April 2008.

TAPCO was created by Greg Mackie and Michael Schnieder back in 1969.Their original product line were guitar amps and PA speakers. They recognized that there were no mixers available with a feature set aimed at the performing musician. The first mixer product, the model 6000 and its variants was successful enough to establish the company and provide revenue for growth. In time, the company produced a line of audio mixers and power amplifiers for sound reinforcement and (later) recording. In 1979 Electro Voice purchased TAPCO and over a period of time phased it out. In 2003 Greg Mackie purchased the rights to the TAPCO name and now it is a predominant name in the Makie Designs.

A cause of death was not revealed at press time.

"We lost our main man, Tommy Skeeter this week. Grateful our Sound City Movie pals for introducing him to all of you. Thank you to all of the people who have stopped by the office to meet Tom in the past few years-- he enjoyed the visits, and loved hearing how far people had come,"

a statement on the Sound City Studios Facebook page reads.

The news was first confirmed on Sept. 12, via the Sound City Studios Facebook page, as well as from a tweet from musician Rick Springfield.

"Tom was a southern gentleman who, along with Joe Gottfried took me under their collective wing at Sound City in 1976 and allowed me the freedom to write and record at their magic studio,"

Springfield told Billboard in statement on Sept. 13.

"Tom was one of the good guys."

Tom Skeeter (parter in Sound City Studios & my co-manager through the '80s) has passed away. A southern gentleman. RIP Tom. xo Rick

REDD37:

Up until the Sgt. Pepper sessions in 1967, the recording desks used in the control room at Abbey Road Studios were the EMI-built REDD 37. Lenny Kravitz owns this console and recently added a CraneSong AVOCET monitoring system. This is probably the most famous console in the world. Lenny supposedly refused a substantial offer from a former Beatle member for it
