  2. FCB1010 Setup for Line6 POD The FCB1010 setup for use with the Line6 POD and POD Pro is fairly simple. Set MIDI channel on each to match Set volume controller for one expression pedal Set Wah-Wah for other expression pedal Set up patches to select your desired POD tones The FCB1010 can handle 10 banks of 10 patches each for a total of 100 patches. The POD only handles a max of 36 stored patches. However there are some ways to take advantage of the extra patches in the FCB1010 for the POD. By using Change Controller settings, you can effectively expand the number of distinct stored patches you can reference on your POD. Other advanced options will be covered below. A. MIDI Channel There are 16 MIDI channels. Both the POD and FCB1010 default to channel 1. Unless you have another device on channel 1, just leave it as is. Chapter 8 in POD manual discusses how to set the MIDI channel. This same channel will be used in FCB1010 global setup for controllers, expression pedals, and program change values. Section 2.2 in the FCB1010 manual shows how to set the MIDI channel for each of these. Set them all to the same MIDI channel as the POD. B. Volume Control Pedal Decide which pedal you want to use for volume, left or right. The other pedal will probably be used for Wah-Wah. Section 2.3 of the FCB1010 manual has details on how to change each value. Note that this is done for each and every patch. There is no global setting that sets this. The Controller Change number for volume is #7. After you enter this, you enter a value for minimum volume and maximum volume. The default range is 0 (no volume) to 127 (max volume). Many will want to set a higher minimum volume so that one can quickly return to a default rhythm volume. The value of 55 will work well for many. C. Wah-Wah Control Pedal The other expression pedal is usually used for Wah-Wah. Section 2.3 of the FCB1010 manual has details on how to change each value. Note that this is done for each and every patch. There is no global setting that sets this. The Controller Change number for Wah-Wah is #4. After you enter this, you enter a value for minimum volume and maximum wah. The default range is 0 to 127. This will work well for most. D. Patch Setup Each patch on the FCB1010 will select a POD patch, set for volume control and wah (see B and C above) and set other values as desired. As a minimum you will need to set the Program change value to match the POD patch you wish. Appendix C in the POD manual shows change numbers for each of the 36 POD stored patches. Section 2.3 of the FCB1010 manual has details on how to change each value. Note that this is done for each and every patch. Suppose you want button 1 in bank 0 to be your POD crunch sound. Suppose this is stored in channel C on bank 3 in the POD. This corresponds to a program change value of 11. This is what you would use for Program Change 1 value on the FCB1010 for the selected patch. Advanced Options Wah-Wah control is a little tricky using the FCB1010. Controlling Wah on the POD requires two things. First that the Wah function is controlled via CC setting, and second a Wah pedal to vary the sound. While the expression pedal will do fine to turn Wah on and vary the sound, it cannot turn Wah off. You have to use a Change Controller message to do this. CC4 is used by the pedal to vary the sound. A different controller, CC43, is used to turn Wah off. Suppose you want FCB1010 button 4 to select a POD combo with Wah-Wah enabled. When you select FCB1010 button 4, it enabled the expression pedal for Wah and turns Wah off. Set CNT 1 for CC43 with a value of 0. This turn Wah off each time this preset is selected. Just pressing the Wah pedal automatically turns it on. Then when you press button 4, you get your selected POD patch with Wah-Wah enabled. Use the expression pedal as desired. If you wish to turn Wah off while in same patch, press button 4 again. This does not change your POD patch, but just turns Wah off. To turn it on again, just use the expression pedal. You can use the same approach above for other patches to control other POD features. The POD has a volume boost (about 4 db) that can be turned on/off. This can be handy to get a quick volume increase for solo work, and then back afterwards. CC26 is the controller for this function. Appendix D in the POD manual outlines the various things you can control this way. Later firmware versions of the FCB1010 have a patch copy function. This makes it easy to copy an existing patch to another location and then just change the Program controller values. The other settings for volume, wah, etc, would be copied from the working patch. There are many ways to set up the FCB1010 to control a POD. The above is one simple approach that will work for most.
